Open House Held for Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute

Estevan – On Thursday, April 28, Southeast Regional College and the Southeast College Education Foundation hosted an Open House event for stakeholders and members of the Estevan community to promote the new Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute.

“We wanted to give people the opportunity to see what we’re doing,” explains Jim Wilson, chairperson of the Southeast College Education Foundation Board of Directors.  “It’s an opportunity to chat with people, answer in-depth questions, and communicate what will be happening in this fantastic facility moving forward.”

With the cooperation of the weather, construction of the 44,000 square-foot training facility is scheduled to be completed by October 31st.  Once operational, the College plans to offer a number of programs and courses aimed at career advancement in the energy sectors.  This list includes a 6-week Oil & Gas Rig Worker program, an 18-week Oil & Gas Field Operations program, and a part-time Oil & Gas Production Accounting program, as well as training in trades such as Power Engineering and Electrician.

One of the key messages at the Open House was the need for community funding.  “With any project of this scale, fundraising is necessary,” states Craig Brown, President and CEO of Southeast Regional College.  “We are very hopeful that the corporate community, and those at today’s event for that matter, will be interested in supporting this project by way of donations or by participating in an advisory capacity,” adds Brown.

As such, the College and Foundation are undertaking a $3.5 million fundraising campaign to purchase much needed equipment and technology for students attending the new campus.  Unveiled at the Open House was a donor recognition program, which included special partnerships, naming rights, and scholarships depending on the donation amount.  Anyone interested in more information on this fundraising campaign can contact the Foundation Executive Director, Ian MacLennan, at (306) 848-2527.
