Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute construction is making progress
Estevan – Southeast Regional College and its contractor have been diligently working towards a substantial completion date for its new Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute (SETI) facility. “A construction project of this magnitude combined with a booming economy has presented some challenges that we have encountered and are trying to overcome,” says the College’s Acting President and CEO, Jody Holzmiller. “However, we are currently making arrangements for our staff to move in the New Year and are hopeful that the facility will be operational on February 1,” she adds.
With Spring break-up forthcoming, numerous safety courses and specialty safety programs will utilize a number of additional classrooms and lab space that the College did not have access to in the past. Full-time trades training programs such as Power Engineering Technician, Plumbing, and Electrician will also be delivered at the new facility.
“Particularly with Spring break-up on the cusp, our current campus did not have the space to accommodate all of our safety training classes,” states Holzmiller. “SETI will help solve this problem and create many other training and educational opportunities for the southeast community, which is something we are all very excited about.”
Southeast Regional College’s new SETI facility is currently being constructed on land donated by the City of Estevan at the new Glen Peterson Industrial Park. The project broke ground in November 2009 with funding from Canada’s Economic Action Plan and the Federal Knowledge Infrastructure Plan.
