Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute is substantially complete and occupied

Estevan – Reaching a point of substantial completion earlier this month has allowed Southeast Regional College staff and installation crews to move into the new Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute (SETI) facility and prepare the building for students and classes.

“All the furniture is in place, with IT and Audio Visual equipment very close to being completed as well,” says Southeast Regional College’s Facilities Manager, Wayne Martin.  “There is some painting to be completed in one of the labs, plus some other touch-ups and seasonal work, such as curbing and landscaping, which will be completed over the next few months with minimal disturbance.”

The College’s administrative staff have moved over from the 255 Spruce Drive location to the new location and have been busy preparing classrooms.  Power Engineering students relocated their classroom on January 23rd and all industry-related safety training classes will be hosted at the new facility at 532 Bourquin Road beginning January 31st.  An official grand opening for the public will take place later this Spring.

Sheena Onrait, Estevan Campus Manager, is extremely satisfied with the new building.  “The classrooms are much bigger and we have more of them, which is a huge advantage and will allow us to accommodate the increased number of safety training courses we run during break-up season,” says Onrait.  She also emphasizes that campus phone numbers have remained the same and anyone needing to confirm their course location can contact the SETI Campus at 634-4795.

Southeast Regional College’s new SETI facility has been constructed on land donated by the City of Estevan at the new Glen Peterson Industrial Park. The project broke ground in November 2009 with funding from the provincial and federal governments through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program that was part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Additional information on the Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute can be found at www.southeastcollege.org/programs/seti.
