General Educational Development (GED)

A GED certificate is recognized by most training institutions, private trade schools, and employers. The combination of GED12 and specific academic 30-level courses will provide for greater access to post-secondary programs. Any person who is a resident of Saskatchewan at the time of writing and is nineteen (19) years of age or older may apply to write the tests, provided he/she does not possess a Saskatchewan Grade XII Certificate or a Saskatchewan GED XII Certificate.

Counselling Services

Counsellors provide personal, educational, and career counselling to all of our students on an individual basis and in group settings. Students are encouraged to discuss their goals with a College counsellor before enrolling in a program.

Entrance Process

Candidates for Basic Education programs are referred to the College in a variety of ways. It is recommended that you:

  1. Make an appointment to see a College Career Counsellor. The Counsellor will assist you in planning your initial career goals. Any district office will set up an appointment for you.
  2. Contact the nearest location below and make an appointment to speak to a Basic Education Instructor (September - May)

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for Basic Education programs, you must meet the following criteria:

  • be 18 years of age (17 years for Non-Status Indian & Metis),
  • be out of the regular school system for at least one year, and
  • score at a satisfactory level on a placement test to indicate a potential for satisfactory progress.

If you do not meet the satisfactory level, tutoring can be arranged to upgrade your skills to the level where you can enrol in a future ABE program.

* The program is intended primarily for adults and not as a substitute for secondary school students of high school age. However, limited space may be available to students under 18 years of age; if they have a written recommendation from their school principal, and the BE Instructor is satisfied that they will be able to perform in an adult environment.
