19th Annual Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament Raises $34,000 for Student Scholarships

September 25, 2017

The 19th Annual “Swing for Scholarships” Golf Tournament was held Friday, September 8th at the Weyburn Golf Club. This year’s tournament raised $17,000 in funds for full time post-secondary students enrolled with Southeast College. These funds are generously matched dollar for dollar by the Ministry of Advanced Education though the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship Program to create $34,000 in Entrance Awards. This is the nineteenth consecutive year for this tournament in Weyburn.

“A big thank you to all our tournament sponsors and participants for their continued support of our students and our scholarship program,” said Jeff Richards, VP of Strategic Development. “We are very appreciative of the community support that we receive for this event as well as all of the other events that we host throughout the year.”

88 golfers enjoyed their day on the course golfing in an 18-hole Texas scramble format. The day ended with steak dinner and a number of prize draws. Prairie Sky Co-op represented the winning team with the lowest score.

“We are very proud of the amount of scholarship and bursary funding students have access to at Southeast College because pursuing a post-secondary education is an expensive endeavor,” stated Dave Harazny, Manager of College Advancement. “The Swing for Scholarships event is an incredible demonstration of community support for our students and we are looking forward to celebrating its 20th anniversary next year.”

Southeast College is proud to be the Trainer of Choice in Southeast Saskatchewan, serving approximately 8,000 learners and producing more than 5,000 graduates annually.
