June 7, 2018

Southeast College welcomed two new Board of Governors during its final meeting of the 2017-2018 fiscal year on June 6th in Weyburn.  The Minister of Advanced Education recently appointed William Kaysaywaysemat and Jodie Hetherington to 3-year terms with the College.

Mr. Kaysaywaysemat brings significant insights and experience working in indigenous education. He has been the education coordinator with Khakewistahaw First Nation with expertise in Post-Secondary and Adult training requirements for First Nations members and is currently an elected Councilor for Khakewistahaw First Nation.

Ms. Hetherington hails from the Moose Jaw area and has a background in healthcare, trained as a registered nurse. After her career in nursing, Hetherington turned her focus to the management of a successful farm and cattle operation. Hetherington also spends time as an active volunteer in her community donating her time to school fundraising initiatives and leadership to local community organizations.

“I look forward to working with the Southeast College Board and to continue with both the College and Ministry’s goals to increase education options for First Nation communities” stated Kaysaywaysemat, “I believe that my past experiences with First Nation members will be an asset to both the College and the Board.”

”My commitment to community based organizations is what helped to drive my interest to work with the Board of Governors of Southeast College” said Hetherington. “I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience in a new capacity.”

Kaysaywaysemat and Hetherington’s appointments replace the appointments of Judi Jones of Weyburn and Brenda Stevenson of Carry the Kettle First Nation. Jones and Stevenson have completed two terms on the College Board.

“We are very appreciative of the passion and dedication that both Judi Jones and Brenda Stevenson have given to the Board of Governors for the Southeast College”, stated Janice Giroux,  Board Chair. “We would like extend our sincere thanks to both Judi and Brenda for their time, expertise and knowledge that they continually shared with our Board and the College.”

Southeast College is proud to offer innovative and flexible programming that encourages students to learn where they live.
