Powerline Technician Program

February 19, 2020

Southeast College is proud to announce that it will serve as the new training provider for the Powerline Technician apprenticeship program beginning in the fall of 2020. This training will encompass all four levels of the Powerline Technician program and will take place in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

“Southeast College was awarded the contract through an extensive Request for Proposal process,” said Patrick Stoddart, President and CEO of Southeast College. “We are very pleased that we are the first regional college in Saskatchewan to deliver all four levels of an apprenticeship program.”

The Powerline Technician was first designated as a trade in Saskatchewan in 1975. Since then SaskPower has served as the training provider for this program.

“The Southeast College Board of Governors are thrilled with the announcement,” states Janice Giroux, Board Chair. “Our staff recognized an opportunity to expand our apprenticeship training and we are very pleased to be selected as the training provider for this program.”

“The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) is committed to providing its apprentices with effective, high-quality apprenticeship training,” SATCC CEO Jeff Ritter said. “We believe Southeast College will enable us to sustain that high level of service and look forward to building a strong partnership.”

The first intake of Level 1 Powerline Technician is scheduled to begin in September 2020. The location of training will not change for apprentices as the College intends to lease the existing training facility.

Southeast College is proud to be the Trainer of Choice in Southeast Saskatchewan. The College offers innovative and flexible programming that encourages students to learn where they live.
