Southeast College and SaskTel Partner on Telecommunication Training Program

Southeast College and SaskTel recently partnered to develop and offer new training designed to meet ongoing employment demands within the Telecommunications industry. “Introduction to Telecommunications Standard Wiring” is a 64 hour course initially offered as a pilot in the spring of 2016 and will now be offered to the public at key intervals throughout the year at Southeast College’s Estevan Campus.

“Trade specific skills in the area of telecommunications are in demand,” said Jeff Richards, Vice President, Strategic Development at Southeast College. “We recognized an opportunity to partner with SaskTel to develop training that would help to meet that labour market demand. We are also very excited that Southeast College is able to offer completion bursaries to each of this year’s graduates of the program as part of our commitment to our partnership with SaskTel and for the long term success of this program.”

The course is an introduction into the basics in telecommunications, including the components and wiring of telephone and data networks in both residential and commercial environments. An emphasis on hands-on practical training with equipment typically used in the industry is a key element to this course.

“We are pleased to partner with the Southeast College on this training program,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “The skills and knowledge that the students acquire during this program will provide them with a solid understanding of how telecommunications services operate today so that they may build on that foundational knowledge as they venture into a career in the telecommunications industry.”

Southeast College is proud to offer innovative and flexible programming that encourages students to learn where they live.
