Southeast College Announces New CEO

August 12, 2022

Weyburn Southeast College’s Board of Directors would like to welcome Dr. Vicky Roy as its next CEO. Dr. Roy’s first day at the College will be August 15, 2022.

Dr. Vicky Roy brings with her more than 17 years of post-secondary experience across the country from Quebec to British Columbia and Alberta, including roles as a member of the faculty of business at SAIT and Red Deer Polytechnic and as Adjunct Faculty, Business and Professional Programs at the University of Calgary, University Laval and Sherbrooke University, and several management and executive positions at BCIT, Lasalle College, International Academy of Design & Technology and most recently as the Vice-President Academic and Provost at Medicine Hat College.

She holds a PhD in educational technologies, as well as a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec. She is joining Southeast College with a wealth of experience in leading, developing, launching, and delivering innovative courses and programs for on campus, blended, and online learning. Her research interests are focused on entrepreneurship, sustainable innovation, strategic management, leadership, and distance education. In addition, Dr. Roy’s background spans publishing, communications, marketing and advertising, and telecommunications sectors just to mention a few.  She was also a director at the Burnaby Board of Trade, the chair of the Alberta Comprehensive Community Colleges Committee, the Co-Chair of the Alberta Council of Senior Academic Officers, advisor at the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee with the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CiCan) and also at the Calgary Catholic Immigrant Society for Small Business.

Dr. Roy is excited to start her journey in our province and wants to enhance the college’s connections within the southeast Saskatchewan community. Her husband Patrick was born in Saskatoon and is eager to return to the province where his grandparents and all his immediate family are originally from Regina.

As part of her role, Dr. Roy will network with business leaders, communities, post-secondary institutions, international partners, and government officials at all levels to strengthen the College’s position in the region and province. She and her team will begin planning the consultation process for the College’s next five-year strategic plan in the fall of 2022 with the goal of reaching out to stakeholders to create an open forum for sharing their thoughts and ideas to shape who we are as a community, and as a region within the province. As part of her commitment to fostering a climate of trust, transparency, and accessibility, she is eager to build strong relationships with the Board of Governors, the executive management team, faculty, and staff to achieve the common goal of fostering a culture that thrives and practices shared leadership, innovation, and collaboration.

“Southeast College is very pleased to welcome someone with Vicky’s extensive and diverse background. We are confident that her vast experience in various roles within the post-secondary will assist with moving our institution forward,” says Donna Nyeste, Acting Board of Governors Chair. “Southeast College would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Advanced Education for their guidance and expertise throughout the CEO recruitment process.”

Southeast College would like to thank Stephen Eger of Kn/a HR Consulting for acting as our Interim CEO since early January.

Southeast College is proud to offer innovative and flexible programming that encourages students to learn where they live.
